Description and Details
This superb high relief card case was made by silversmith Frederick Marson in Birmingham 1856. The front features a high relief chased design of the Scott Monument in addition to a stippled background and an acanthus motif which encompasses the monument.
The rear side is also embellished with matching acanthus scrolls and a monogrammed cartouche is present in the centre. The edges and sides also feature a classic Victorian scalloped/scroll-like geometric design that makes holding the case more ergonomic and equally aesthetically charming.
The craftsmanship and feel in hand is second to none with an intricately detailed and raised monument and a fully working hinge and lid that has a tight and secure closure.
The box is fully hallmarked with the maker's mark, date mark (1856), silver lion, Victorian head and the Birmingham assay mark.
Needless to say, a captivating and bold silver card case, suitable for uncompromising collectors of high relief silverware and ornate Victorian items.
