Description and Details 

We are delighted to offer this magnificent solid silver gilt snuff box made in London in 1853 by Thomas Edwards.

Ornate, exquisite and opulent - even to the untrained eye, this box presents an impressive aura upon a glance. The snuff box is fully gilt with a lemon/yellow gold tone and features a wonderfully ornate acorn border on the top. 

The sides and base present a classical engine turned design with one finer floral chased border on the bottom. 

The border is truly magnificent with exceptionally intricate detailing of acorns and leaves, all hand-finished with fine stippling and in high relief.

The interior continues with the lovely gilding (gold on top of solid silver) which not only serves a wonderful aesthetic contrast to the exterior but protects silver from tarnishing from the contents held within.

Overall a spectacular snuff box for those looking to add an accent of gold within a collection or as a special one off piece. Although traditionally made to hold snuff, with some creativity today, it could also be used to store small items, mints, medication etc.

A full set of English hallmarks are present on the interior base with matching marks on the lid.

Condition

Great Condition -  The snuff box is in great antique condition without any major issues/damage. Some minor surface scratches commensurate with age. The box's hinge and closure are good nice tight closure.
