Description and Details
This Georgian solid silver snuff box was made in Birmingham, 1823.
The exterior features reeded lines on all dimensions of the box including the curved sides. The lid is fitted with an ornate cast silver thumb-piece featuring an acanthus chased design. The cartouche on the lid has not been monogrammed.
Interior-wise, the snuff-box features a glossy mirror-like gilt finish. There is one area on the lid side where the gilding has been slightly worn giving off a different tone of gold.
In hand, the box is a perfect size for carrying small items such as pills on the go. Despite its small size, the renown Birmingham quality can be felt in the smoothness of the hinge and closure of the lid.
The box is fully hallmarked, however, the Georgian head and the maker's mark is worn and unidentifiable.
