Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this Victorian solid silver wine ewer/claret jug made by the Elkington in London, 1864.The jug features a lovely bulbous design with an elegant and sleek neck that widens towards the base.
The body of the jug is embossed with floral and foliate chasing, with swags and engraved embellishments surrounding the decorations. The jug features an elegant and sleek handle and a widened foot that allows for the jug to stand up straight and hold contents steadily.
The central cartouche is not engraved, however, it shows slight signs of previous erasure around the edge - this, however, does not affect the usage and is very minor. The jug is leak-free and thus allows for liquids to be held within. Though traditionally wine would be the common choice, in the modern-day it would make for an equally wonderful manner to hold and pour any beverages of your preference for a luxurious and indulging experience.
A full set of English hallmarks are marked on the underside of the spout.
