Antique Victorian Garnet & Diamond Cabochon & Star Rose Cut Gold Ring - c.1880

We are delighted to offer this gorgeous antique Victorian garnet cabochon and diamond star ring made c.1880.This ring features a substantial garnet cabochon which has a wonderful curvature that not only has an impressive presence upon wearing but allows for the light to shine through.The domed shape and generous proportions allow for a gold star mount at the top which is set with one main old rose-cut diamond surrounded by 6 further diamonds.Such intricate and sensational design truly comes to life upon wearing this ring under natural lighting that reflects in many different tones and the bright sparkle of the diamond contrast and completes its splendid design. The wonderful lustre ranges from a dark maroon to a red depending on the angle of the lighting. In low-light situations such as at late-night events, parties or even candlelight the garnet and diamond create a further unique and contrasted appearance that presents an aura of mystique and unparalleled elegance. 

Overall, a lovely addition to any jewellery collection, whether be it for wearing as a single standout piece or amongst other antique pieces, this ring certainly would grace the hands of a discerning antique lover.

The ring is unmarked as is common with articles of this period, as such, we have tested the ring with results indicating 18ct gold for the gem mount and top section and 9ct gold for the shank (ring).

Condition: Great antique condition with no major issues/damage. Please note there is some minor surface wear and very fine nicks to the garnet's surface however, this is only mentioned for accuracy practically invisible without magnification and from normal viewing distance.
