Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this beautiful Victorian solid silver vesta case made by silversmith Sampson Mordan in London, 1889.
This vesta case is decorated with the 'Aesthetic Movement' style - an unusual, unique and collectable design with a differentiating style from counterpart pieces of the era.
The Aesthetic Movement, a precursor to the Arts and Crafts Movement was a decorative art style c1870-1900. Regarding this style contextually to silver, the designs were strongly influenced by Japanese themes of nature and wildlife with silverware being hand engraved with fine, minimalistic lines portraying birds, leaves and flowers.
The vesta case is hand engraved with motifs of birds, fans and floral blossoms.
The top lid closes shut well with a tight closure and opening.
A full set of English hallmarks are present on the side of the vesta case.
