Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this magnificent solid sterling silver bowl in London, 1833 with the maker's mark of Edward Edwards.
This impressive basket features an array of highly desirable characteristics; from the geometrically marvellous wrythen design to the ornate hand-chased natural motifs, this piece most certainly does not lack embellishments.
The bowl section is supported by a large and sturdy pedestal foot that has been elegantly shaped and raised.
The bowl features two handles on either side with further intricate decorations of Rococo motifs of scalloped design and acanthus leaves. The border of the bowl presents a continuation of profusely chased motifs of scrolled leaves and flowers, accentuating the overall appearance and a testament to the time, cost and craftsmanship that has gone into the creation of this article.
Owing to its practical design and convenient proportions, this bowl could be used in many practical ways whether it be a bread basket, fruit bowl or to decorate your table as a centrepiece.
The centre of the bowl is left plain with a wonderful hand-engraved crest which contrasts the surrounding wrythen and curved design, presenting a marvellous contrast, drawing your eyes to the centre. Such a design lends itself to be a wonderful display piece in itself, immediately elevating the ambience of an interior setting and captivating the interest of any guests or onlookers.
The basket is hallmarked on the underside with full English marks and a presentation engraving which has beautiful lettering. "Emily Fletcher with her aunts Kensington’s kind love. June 1834".
