Description and Details
This English solid silver table snuff box was made by silversmith Robert Thornton in Birmingham during the Victorian era - 1867. Crafted with Birmingham's renown sterling silver quality, this box is of no exception, with precise and compact designs. The box's sleek outer design allows for an easy carry on the go whilst retaining a captivating engine turned and gilt interior design.
The cartouche of the lid is unmarked leaving room for any monograms / names if this box were to be presented. Adjacent to the lid is a thin thumb-piece which greatly aids in the ease of opening the box which would otherwise be difficult due to its thin and curved design. The curvature of each of the sides in combination with the rounded edges further adds to ease of usage.
Upon holding the box, the craftsmanship and prestigious construction quality are apparent with a reassuring weight despite its compact size. Additionally, the hinge and closure of the lid function flawlessly with a smooth closing action and a precise closure of the lid.
The box is fully hallmarked with the maker's mark "RT", silver lion, Birmingham anchor and the date mark "s" for 1867.
An ideal Victorian snuff box to add to a bespoke collection for personal use on the go when travelling or for a days outing.
