We are delighted to offer this exquisite solid silver snuffer tray made by William Pitts in London, 1815.
This tray presents a unique and highly ornate design with every part featuring intricate motifs and silversmithing. The outer edge features a most elaborate gadrooned and foliate border with four accenting points of scalloped/anthemion scrolled motifs.
The wall has been uniquely embellished with further geometric motifs and swags. The centre of the tray has been left with a beautiful plain mirror finish to contrast its surroundings, on which a coat of arms (an Earl’s coronet on top) and two monograms have been meticulously hand-engraved.
This snuffer tray would originally have been used to place a silver snuffer (for putting out candles) on top however, due to its versatile size and design, in the modern day, with a touch of creativity, it is equally suitable for many other uses.

The tray is fully hallmarked with English marks on the base.

Condition
Excellent Condition - Great Condition - The tray great antique condition with no major damage or issues. Some minor surface wear commensurate with age, the decoration and engravings remain crisp.
One note; the 'scraped' area on the rear side of the bowl is not a later damage/defect but as a result of an original action by an assay master performing assay testing. In order to guarantee and confirm the silver content is of passing standard and the assayer would scrape (hopefully a non-disruptive) area of the silverware to test for its purity/contents. Interestingly enough, the remnants of the silver scrapings would be kept upon the retirement of the assay masters and as such some individuals would scrape as much as 'reasonably possible' which led to very large marks, more than really necessary as is the case with this item.
We aim to overemphasise and state these issues to avoid disappointment and thus please rest assured they are not significant nor affect the usage of the items.
