Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this beautiful pair of solid silver salts made in London 1834.
The pair presents an exceptional fluid and open design, with an irregular form, scrolled edges and a beautifully raised and stippled acanthus leaf in the centre.
True to Rococo philosophy and embracing its revival, the salts feature asymmetrical elements with a sculpture-like design as if to invite the onlooker to view it from all angles.
Contrary to its utilitarian and simple nature - to hold salt, the artistry and time that would have gone into making such a pair is a testament to its quality and craftsmanship.
The top bowls are both gilded (gold on top of solid silver) which not only offers a beautiful contrasting tone but also protects the silver from reacting with the content held within.
Owing to their ornate yet practical form, these salts not only offer a wonderful aesthetic in an interior setting but could be used practically in the modern day with some creative uses. Whether it be for salt on a dining table, butter quenelles or as a sauce/condiment selection, we believe such pieces present a versatile offering in addition to their splendour.
Overall, a splendid pair of salts, ideal to elevate any interior dining setting or for discerning collectors who wish to add a distinguished set to their display.
A full set of English hallmarks is present on the side of each piece. The marks are quite rubbed and the maker's mark is indistinct.
