Description and Details

A table-sized Victorian snuff box with a gold gilt interior made by silversmith Edward Edwards in 1845, London. The construction quality of the box is very sturdy with a smooth hinge and perfect shut. Although the box was made in the Victorian era, the hand engravings and monograms on the interior suggest this box was presented to William Davies on Christmas 1941 with the quote "nec cito nec tarde" translating to "neither swiftly nor slowly" in Latin. Considering that the year of the presentation was during the toiling times of WW2 Britain, one can imagine that this was presented with the intentions of remembering/reminding that during times of hardship, we must take things one by one without rush nor faltering in order to strive. An interesting historical piece ideal for a keen collector of historic values. The box is fully hallmarked with the London Assay, Silver Lion, Victorian Head, Maker's Mark "EE" and the Date Mark "k" for 1845.
