We are delighted to be able to offer this magnificent solid silver Victorian figural candlestick/candleholder made by silversmith Charles Thomas Fox & George Fox of London in 1842.
This candle holder features a superb quality 'cast silver figure most likely from Greek mythological origins featuring a wonderfully detailed array of features such as the intricate and natural flowing robes, the laurel wreath and the flower being held up.
In addition to the main attraction of the figure, the base is nonetheless noteworthy with a Rococo (Rocaille) influenced design of asymmetric flowers, leaves and scrolls being chased and embellished around a cylindrical foot.
The widened base allows for the holder to stand without any wobble or stability issues when placed on a table.
The flower held up at the top allows for a thin candle (not standard size) to be placed within should one wish to use this piece for practical use aside from a beautiful display-piece by itself.
The overall quality, craftsmanship and ornate decorations are indeed superb and highly desirable for those wishing to add a piece of fine silverware that not only serves a practical purpose, however, moreover, as an artistic and aesthetic piece for your interior.
