Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this magnificent matched set of Georgian solid silver dishes, all fully gilt in a rich gold tone and remaining in great condition. This set of 12 dishes is of exactly identical design and size, comprised of seven dishes by William Stroud, London 1811; two by Andrew Fogelberg & Stephen Gilbert, London 1780; one struck three times with the mark of Andrew Fogelberg & Stephen Gilbert; and two with the marks of Elizabeth Jones and "WW", London 1792. Such cases may have occurred when families/owners of silverware wished to add more items later on down the line or replace damaged items and a different firm/silversmith was commissioned to make an identical item. Apparent upon first glance and vividly captivating, the dishes' gilt lustre and combined presence make a bold statement and centrepiece attraction in any interior setting. In addition to their aesthetic beauty, these dishes are very practical even in the modern day with the size, number and quality of the dishes accommodating limitless uses with a touch of creativity.
Whilst originally, these dishes may have been intended as dessert dishes - today, one may wish to use them on a dining table with food of their choice or even in an exceptionally stylish and indulgent manner to serve treats on special occasions such as parties or events. Why not get creative; serve your favourite cheeses, and snacks or even serve a seafood platter on a yacht? The silver gilding (gold layer on solid silver) not only makes for an excellent highlight and contrast in an interior but prevents the silver from tarnishing as quickly as normal wares.
Ideal among other fine objects or even as an accent to other silverware, the gold tone is easy to match and immediately elevates the opulence of any setting. Surprisingly, due to the relatively 'minimalistic' design with no engravings etc, these dishes may also complement modern interiors and artworks very nicely. A full set of English hallmarks are present on the base of the dishes, with one dish only having three maker's marks stamped.
