A Magnificent Pair of English Solid Sterling Silver 5-Light Candelabra, (58cm, 5kg+) Neoclassical Design - Hunt & Roskell (Late Storr Mortimer & Hunt)

We are delighted to offer this remarkable English pair of large and heavy solid silver Victorian candelabras made by the celebrated maker Hunt & Roskell of London in 1869 (1876 for the matching pair).

Hunt & Roskell was a first-class silversmith/jeweller with their wares featuring the most desirable, fine and meticulous designs and as a result, held the Royal Warrant of Queen Victoria for many years. 

This firm was established as the successor by the renowned silversmith Paul Storr who had left Rundell, Bridge & Rundell in order to start his own workshop on Harrison Street near Clerkenwell in 1819.

Due to an eventual and evolving partnership with none less than John Mortimer, John Samuel Hunt, Robert Roskell Jn. the name came to be altered multiple times with the name Hunt & Roskell being hallmarked and stamped on this pair of candelabras (please note the regular hallmarks on the rear, as well as their trademark signature stamp around the base of the foot). 

This pair presents the most wonderful Neoclassical style with two bold and cast-silver stems in the form of Corinthian columns.

The pair features a majestic five-branched design with the central capital being slightly extended than the others. Each capital, drip pan and sconce is finished to a high polish 'mirror-like texture with the sides being decorated with reeded lines.

The base of the candelabra is equally matched in quality, craftsmanship and artistic design with its flared, three-lobed foot allowing for an exceptionally sturdy and reassuring foundation. 

Intricate chased and engraved details on the edge of the foot along with beaded borders are an additional delight. 

Each component (capital, sconces, drip pans, base) are hallmarked with matching English marks with all parts being original to the set. 

The very large size (58cm Height, 5kg+ not weighted, pure solid silver), allows for this pair to be an exemplary piece of fine Victorian silverware made by one of the greatest silver firms - a perfect addition for uncompromising display or as an Haute-silverware interior decor whether be it for your home, communion halls, yachts, etc.
