Description and Details
We are delighted to be able to offer this wonderful solid sterling silver heavy table snuff box, made by silversmith Edward Smith in Birmingham, 1835.
The entire box is made from a very good gauge of heavy silver which is ever more apparent when held in hand - the overall thickness, dimensions and sturdiness of this snuff box is superb.
The exterior features a beautiful hand engraved design of acanthus leaves and scrolls, leaving the top lid with a wide and unengraved blank cartouche in the centre.
The interior of the box is fully gilt with a rich, yellow gold which contrasts the exterior silver wonderfully whilst also protecting the silver from oxidation with the contents placed within.
The box is fully hallmarked with English marks both on the top and base of the box's interior.
A wonderful addition for collectors seeking a large and quality piece of Victorian silverware with a distinguished size, quality and presence.
