Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this large and exceptional solid silver Georgian salver/tray made in 1808 London.
Upon first glance, the large size and spectacular presence of the object most certainly leaves a majestic impression upon whoever may have the pleasure of viewing this item. In addition to its large form, the gauge and weight of this salver is superb; weighing in at 3.3kg, upon holding in hand it is incredibly heavy and sturdy.
Equally matching its grandness, the ornate decorations are also most excellently crafted. The outer cast-silver border has been intricately decorated with Bacchic themes of grapevines, grapes and female figural masks which have been finely hand-pierced. The central portion of the silver is further decorated with a profusely chased wreath of floral and Rococo themed embellishments.
The middle of the silver features a hand-engraved coat of arms of the Parker family (Further heraldic details below).
Clear English hallmarks are present on the reverse side of the salver and cast border, however, for some peculiar reason the maker's mark is omitted (most likely due to human error).
