Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this Georgian solid silver table snuff box made by silversmith Thomas Spicer of Birmingham in 1825.
The snuff box features a very ornate and intricately chased floral design on all sides of the walls with further continued chasing on the applied case border around the top lid.
The lid of the box has a large and unengraved cartouche which makes this box ideal for collectors or those who wish to later add an engraving of their own.
The base of the box has a classic and timeless engine-turned design which is a distinct feature found on Georgian era snuff boxes.
Internally, the box is fully gilt (gold plate) which not only contrasts the exterior silver colour very pleasantly but also adds a layer of protection from the contents inside oxidising/corroding the silver.
In hand, the box's excellent craftsmanship is ever more apparent with a very smooth hinge and a good closure of the box. Additionally, the curvature of the sides and the widened base makes for a further aesthetically appealing design whilst also ensuring the box sits steadily on a tabletop.
The snuff box has full matching English hallmarks on both the base and lid.
An exemplary Georgian silver table snuff box ideal for those looking to add a fabulous piece of Georgian silverware, whether be it for display, collection or usage.
