Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this exquisite pair of solid (925 sterling) silver-gilt salt and pepper shakers made early/mid 20th century, German origin.
The pair feature a most ornate and wonderful mythological form of fish/dolphins and is made from an excellent gauge of silver.
While challenging to convey through photos, the pair have a very impressive heft to them with a reassuring and quality feel in the hand.
The cast pair present a very detailed and intricate decoration throughout and is exemplary of fine silvermithing on what could otherwise be a utilitarian article.
Furthermore, the fact that the pair feature a different design is testament to its opulence, as further time, cost and labour could have had to be spent in order to create two separate designs.
The entirety is silver gilt (gold on top of solid silver) which not only offers further aesthetic splendour but prevents the silver from oxidising with the contents held within.
Overall, a marvellous and exquisite pair, ideal for display or to be used on a dining table in the most opulent manner. Bound to be a conversation starter and a fine way of sharing your passion for quality silverware with your guests.
The pair is marked with a maker's mark, German silver crescent and 925 on the base.
