We are delighted to offer this magnificent three-piece solid silver fruit bowl set, made by silversmith John Bodman Carrington (Carrington & Co) in London, 1890. Carrington & Co are considered as one of London's great silversmiths receiving the royal warrant (Royal Silversmith) from none less than Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, Edward VII and George V.

All the bowls feature an ornate repousse & gadrooned exterior with an alternating mirror finish / chased floral design. Handles attached to the sides have a silver case griffin design on each side with intricate detailing.

The interior has a high polish finish with a clean, bright and reflective surface. The bowl features a raised body with a circular and wide base that sits perfectly flush on tables/surfaces.

The set is compromised of one large centre-piece fruit bowl and two accompanying smaller subsidiary bowls that feature the exact same design with each base engraved with the phrase "for better". One can imagine perhaps the centre bowl would sit in the middle of a communal table and the two side bowls would be shared with other parties/guests, signifying for a better relationship for all beings involved.

The bowls are all hallmarked with the maker's mark, date mark (1890), silver lion and the London assay mark.

An exemplary Victorian set of silverware, ideal for any uncompromising collector or institutes who wish to display the bowls as an ornamental centrepiece or alternatively for personal use.
