Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this wonderful pair of solid silver Georgian salts made by Robert Hennell in London, 1826.The pair is made with such a superb gauge of silver which is apparent upon holding in hand. The pair are large and very heavy - the pair weighs an impressive 462g.
The design is rare and desirable, similar in form to those made by the great Paul de Lamerie in the 18th Century. The two gilt bowls are supported by a sturdy and widened pedestal base. The base is finely decorated with a wealth of leaves.
The upper 'body' features a very accommodating and large flared bowl with further Rococo style decorations of chased leaves and scrolls. The interior of each salt is fully gilt with a lustrous and rich gold tone that not only contrasts the exterior silver colour but adds a layer of protection from the contents which may tarnish the silver.
Each salt is fully and clearly hallmarked with full English hallmarks on the base underneath the bowl.
A wonderful pair for those wishing to acquire an excellent example of a heavy salt cellar and a wonderful manner to serve your favourite condiments on a dining table or as part of interior decor. Why not get creative and find alternate uses in the modern day; sorbets and ice creams would seem like a perfect match to enjoy and indulge with these cups and perhaps a pair of fine silver spoons.
