Description and Details
This German 19th-century snuff box features a highly decorative repousse design throughout the box with the highlight being the lid with a scene depicting 3 people including a lady who performs a curtsy in front of the other two gentlemen.
Towards the edges of the lid, roses and scrolls are used to create a border of the scene which is further carried on to all the edges of the snuff box.
The interior is gilded with a matte texture gold plate that has been slightly worn due to the ageing and has some patina in one area. The closure and hinge of the box function well with a smooth and tight closure.
The box is hallmarked with the standard German 800 silver mark and the crescent moon and crown mark. The maker's mark does not appear to be present and thus we were unable to identify the maker.
A highly decorative silver snuff box ideal for adding to one's collection as a highlighting piece that aesthetically stands out.
