Description and Details
The spectacular large silver basket was made by silversmith Joseph Scammell in London, 1790 and features his trademark pierced and bright cut motifs on the rim of the basket.
A noteworthy large size in combination with its elegant neoclassical design, the basket constitutes an array of desirable features for collection and practical usage.
The interior of the basket presents a high polish finish with a ten-sided angular sloping design with a curved bowl that provides ample space for placing fruits/cakes/etc.
The handle of the basket fully pivots to both sides and has a smooth and sturdy hinge. The base/foot of the basket further features a bar-pierced design which has had restoration.
The basket is fully hallmarked with the maker's mark, London assay, silver lion, Georgian head and the date mark.
A highly recommended piece of silverware for collectors both for display and practical usage. The large size and ornate design of the basket most certainly draws attention to itself as a centrepiece or in combination with preexisting silverware.
