Description and Details
This solid silver gilt snuff box was made by silversmith John Reily in London, 1829.
Whilst featuring a classic Georgian engine-turned design throughout the exterior of the box, the box equally presents a bold and extravagant gold-tone due to its full body gilding.
The interior is equally gilt with a reflective and lustrous finish on the surface of the gold plate. Not only does the gold colour match the exterior and aesthetic styling of this box, but additionally provides protection from oxidation and reactions from the contents (snuff, pills, etc).
The hinge and closure of the box remain in excellent working order with a smooth hinge and a tight closure of the box.
The hallmarks have are fully present on both the base and lid of the box.
