Fine Engraved French Silver Gilt Snuff Box - c.1850

Description and Details 

This delightful french silver-gilt snuff box is made from high grade 950 silver as indicated by the Minerva hallmark. Unfortunately, the maker's mark is difficult to read and thus the maker was unidentifiable.

Needless to say, the full dimensions of the box are fully gilt in a magnificent gold plate. In addition to the luxurious gold luster, the lid features an incredibly fine hand-engraved scene in which a lady and a gentleman are portrayed in the foreground, with an equally impressive background with crepuscular-like rays shining through.

The base and sides of the box are also embellished with semi-circular reeded lines adding a textured appearance and feel to the box.

A unique rose gold interior is present on this snuff box, adding a different lustrous tone of gold to the overall finish, accentuating the luxurious and ornate presentation of the snuff box.

The hinge and closure of the box are excellent with a smooth & secure feel in hand.

The box is fully hallmarked with the Minerva (950) silver mark and a worn maker's mark.
