Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this magnificent 3-piece solid silver Victorian tea set/service made in London 1857 with the maker's mark for Edward & John Barnard.
Impressive on all fronts and unapologetically ornate, this tea set features the most desirable and majestic decorations in 'Louis XV' style decoration.
Each piece and every surface has been finely hand-chased and stippled, the cast handles present sumptuous Rococo asymmetric scrolls and the spout/feet completes the splendour with figural masks. In addition to its opulence, the tea set also remains practical and in great condition with no leaks and gilding to the interiors of the sugar bowl and milk pitcher. This not only allows for a wonderful gold contrast but prevents the contents inside from tarnishing the silver. Upon closer inspection, one can truly appreciate the craftsmanship of the silversmith and 'chaser' as the overall geometry and detail on this set are superb and the idea of contrasting the intricate roses with a stippled background further demonstrates the excellence in artistry. This tea set would most certainly grace a wonderful antique table amongst other silverware or also as a stand-alone piece for a luxurious afternoon tea experience. Furthermore, even in modern interiors and settings, one may be pleasantly surprised to see that these classical and timeless styles contrast & accentuate modern designs quite delightfully and, with some creativity, can be suitable in such settings. A full set of English hallmarks are present on the base of each piece.
