Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this stunning French antique silver-gilt and enamel paper clip made in Paris and retailed by Edouard Henry Dreyfous c.1880. Edouard Henry Dreyfous, born in France was a retailer of fine antiques and objets d’art predominantly in Mayfair, London with other premises in Paris and New York. Most active during the late 19th century (1880 to the early 20th century). Dreyfous' clientele in London included Queen Alexandra of England and Queen Mary, thereby granting him a Royal Warrant. Dreyfous' main clientele were some of the richest, most affluent and influential people from around the world, including Royalty. As expected from a retailer with such high regard and curation of fine objects, this French silver paperclip is of no exception. The entire clip is made from solid silver with a silver-gilt surface encompassing it with a rich gold lustre. The front of the clip presents a most delightful and intricate guilloché enamel panel with very fine engine-turning and embellishments of gold and white enamel.
The striking candy-like pink most certainly stands out from the crowd and adds a contrasting vivid colour amongst other antique objects whether it be in a collection or as part of interior decor.Humorously, it would perhaps also serve as a good reminder of where one left important paperwork; the vivid pink colour truly stands out even among the clutter of a chaotic desk.
A wonderfully crafted ornate antique object, both practical and yet a symbol of an opulent bygone era. Ideal as an exceptionally unique gift or as part of an antique collection, it is certainly an eye-catching piece and a conversation starter for the keen-eyed.French hallmarks of a boar's head and some maker/retailer marks are present on the rear of the clip.
