Antique Imperial Russian Silver Niello Snuff Box Kremlin Scene - Vasili Semenov 1863

We are delighted to offer this beautifully crafted Imperial Russian antique silver snuff box made by silversmith Vasili Semenov in 1863, Moscow.

This snuff box features an elegant curved design allowing for the box to be fitted in a pocket/inside pocket in an ergonomic fashion (the curved sides allow for the box to rest easily on one's thigh/ribcage).

In addition to the geometric aesthetics, this box presents a wonderful niello design of the Kremlin with a superb level of detailing and intricately engraved rays that magnificently expand outward from the centre.

All other sides of the box feature a chequered niello design of small black and silver squares and a blank cartouche is present on the front side. 

The interior has a lovely warm gold tone of gilding that contrasts the monotone exterior with a dazzling shine - some scratches are present with an area of slight wear that can only be seen depending on the angle.

The box is fully hallmarked with Russian hallmarks on both the lid and base of the box. 

Overall, a wonderful artistic and quality piece of Imperial Russian silver niello ware ideal for collectors of such items or with a historic interest of the Russian Empire.
