Description and Details
We are delighted to offer these fabulous solid silver Georgian salt spoons made in London, 1824 (maker's mark indistinct; possibly CR for Charles Rawlings or CH for Charles Hougham). The pair are of exceptional form and Rococo design featuring fluid and ornate scrolls, leaves and floral motifs. Despite the items being 'small' in physical size, the majestic embellishments and heavy gauge of silver used to craft these spoons are contrastingly grand and can be appreciated in hand - a very sturdy weight for its size is apparent. Further, the spoons' bowls are silver-gilt adding a lovely 'lemon-gilt' tone and contrast whilst also adding a layer of protection from the silver tarnishing. The gold lustre is ideal for adding a hint of gold to a silver collection or as an eye-catching dining accoutrement when used practically.
Above: A fully gilt example that we have had the pleasure of selling previously.
Due to the large size of these 'master salt' spoons, they may equally be an ideal piece of silverware to be used practically in the modern day to add sugar or stir your espresso in the utmost opulence and style. The spoons are both marked with English marks however the maker's mark is indistinguishable.
