A Very Large Georgian Solid Silver Salver Tray by John Israel 1801

Description and Details 

This solid silver tray was made by silversmith John Israel in London during the Georgian era in 1801. 

From its sheer size, scale and weight, even to those without a keen eye for arts and antiques, this salver certainly presents itself with exceptional flair and indisputable magnificence. 

Spanning over 41cm in diameter, the large surface provides an ideal area for a fine silversmith to embellish the tray. Firstly, starting from the outer circumference, the cast borders on the edge present formidable quality and intricacy in the engraved and stippled Rococo style leaves and scrolls. 

Towards the middle section, a wreath of accurate and ornate chasing is present, featuring motifs of flowers, foliage, scrolls and fruits.

The centre of the tray is left blank as a cartouche in which personal engravings, presentation messages and the likes can be engraved in. As such, without any monograms or messages, this tray can be used for any purpose and allows the user to add an engraving later on, should it be required. 

The four feet are sturdily crafted from a cast silver mould - allowing for a thick and steady gauge of silver to be used whilst retaining excellent detailing continued on from the border of the tray. As a result, the tray has a hefty weight of 1.8+kg with a trustworthy and solid feel in hand.

Regardless of whether it is used as a tray or as a sole piece for display and admiration, this fine piece of silverware displays many of the desirable traits retained in excellent condition for over 200+ years.
