Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this magnificent Victorian solid silver wine jug/ewer made by the highly regarded Benjamin Smith of London in 1846.
Exterior-wise, the ewer features a high polish mirror-like finish with the body presenting an elegant curved and widened midsection that accommodates for a generous amount of beverage to be stored within (1.5 Litres).
The body is supported by a widened and flared foot that ensures a steady base for the ewer to stand strong.
Suiting the intended use for wine, the handle and perhaps the highlighting point of this piece features a magnificent cast vine handle with intricate and realistic vine leaves.
The finial on top of the lid further presents a vine leaf design which not only serves an aesthetic purpose but allows for the ease of opening. The interior of the ewer remains clean and in useable condition.
Full Set of hallmarks present to the side of the ewer.
Understated yet impressive, such attention to detail and fine craftsmanship attributed to this ewer is a testament to Smith's reputation and desirability of his works.
A wonderful opportunity to add a fine piece of silverware for display or for practical modern usage.
