Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this rare pair of solid silver Georgian wine coasters made by William Allen III in London, 1798.The pair are made in classical Georgian taste with an elegantly understated plain finish.
Particularly noteworthy and desirable for the discerning collector is the usage of solid silver even on the base which distinguishes this pair from counterpart coasters that usually have a wooden base on which the bottles stand on.The pair features a high polish, mirror-like finish on both the outer and inner wall of the border which is further accentuated by the large silver panel on the base.
The coasters are crafted in a way that allows for the light to reflect and 'bounce' off each section allowing for the silver colour to stand out and glisten wonderfully. Underneath, a wooden base and felt lining is present in order to prevent scratches on the surface of a table. One of the felt linings appears to have been replaced (colour difference only and no functional change).
The set is a very fine example of 'minimalistic' yet exquisitely stylish Georgian silverware.
Whilst ideal for a collection or display, these fine silver items can also be practically used in the modern-day for stylish interior decor whether be it serving wine or other beverages of your choice.
English hallmarks are present on the lower rim of each coaster with additional marks separately on the silver bases. The marks are worn on the rim and on one of the bases, however, are legible under close inspection.
