Description and Details
This magnificent pair of Victorian solid silver salt cellars were made by silversmith Chawner & Co (George William Adams) in London 1871.
The pair features an ornate and alluring scalloped form with the interior being fully gilt. The cellars rest on three cast feet which have a figural form of fish/dolphins, complementing the overall marine life theme of the set.
The intricacy and accuracy of the scallop shape and chased terminals are impressive indeed whilst also presenting a pleasing curvature which is perfect for holding salt/pepper/small condiments.
The spoons are also an additional component to the set, however, are made by different makers yet suits the overall size and taste of the set.
The pair of cellars are boxed in an antique case - the locking/push-button mechanism is unfortunately unusable with this box, however, the case can be used for display or for protection when not in use.
Full English hallmarks are present in the ridges of this dish and on the rear of the spoons.
A compact yet striking set of salts, great for a collection or for display on a dining table to spice up your interior decor with a hint of marine life and Victorian design.
