Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this large solid silver Edwardian tray/salver made by silversmith William Mammatt & Son of Sheffield in 1902.
The salver features an array of desirable and ornate features such as the highly chased and embellished border at the edge. The chased ornamentations present multiple forms of leaves intertwined with flowers and scallop-like shells at each interval.
The salver's main portion is equally matched with further hand-engraved acanthus leaves, scrolls and floral motifs. A blank and unengraved cartouche is present in the centre - ideal for collection or those who wish to add a personal engraving/monogram.
The salver is made a good and heavy gauge of silver with a very sturdy and trustworthy feel when held in hand. As such, the salver also features three solid cast-silver feet that steadily supports the salver upon placement on a table.
The salver presents full English hallmarks that are clearly marked on the edge.
This salver most certainly presents an elegant aesthetic charm to its design whilst also retaining a practical large size, allowing for numerous uses. With a touch of creativity, this piece could be used on multiple occasions for display, or usage with other pieces of antique silverware and interior decor.
