Description and Details
A magnificent hand-engraved 22K gold plate and solid silver snuff box - c18th-century French style. An exemplary piece of fine artisan craftsmanship of the Georgian era - fine and precise acanthus/floral hand engravings on all dimensions, less the bottom which has an engine turned design. The centre of the lid portrays two Napoleonic figures in a stride, the background contrasted with fine streaked lines. Additionally, the thumbpiece is of similar design to English Georgian snuff boxes with a three-dimensional chased relief aiding in the ease of opening the box. The interior is equally matched with a gold interior in a brighter tone compared to the external gold plate.
The snuff box has no hallmarking, however, it has been precisely acid tested for different gold karats as well as the base construction solid silver (examination process photos/details available on request).
