Description and Details
We are delighted to offer this Victorian solid silver wine ewer/claret jug made by the Barnards in London, 1872.
The jug features a very stylish and avant-garde design for its time with an oblong-shaped body and a sleek band of oval decorations spanning across the side.
(Goblet not included, available for purchase separately).
A widened foot allows for the ewer to stand tall at 30cm with no wobble, allowing for to be presented in a pronounced manner.
The top of the jug features a small flat hinged lid with some internal gilding.
The handle also presents an array of gorgeous decorations and unique geometric shapes which compliment the overall aesthetics of this jug very well.
The central portion presents a very high polishes mirror-like design with no engravings or monograms. The contrast between the embossed oval band and the plain body conveys the finest elements of quality Victorian craftsmanship and design.
There are no leaks in this jug and thus liquids can be held within.
A full set of English hallmarks are marked on the underside of the spout and the inside of the lid.
