Antique Silver Gilt Snuff Box with Beautiful Engravings - c.1800

We are delighted to offer this fabulous solid silver gilt snuff box made c.1800 most likely of continental origin and possibly French (by design). 

The box features a wonderfully sleek and rectangular form with rounded corners, leaving all the panels to be embellished. Needless to mention, the fully gilt (gold on solid silver) surface presents an aura of splendour even at a quick glance, however, it is the finer details and engravings that further distinguish and elevate the artistry on this box. The top lid and four side panels have all been meticulously hand-engraved with various asymmetric foliate scroll motifs to form an overall symmetrical pattern and design. Furthermore, the central cartouche depicts a scene with two figures, with fabulous detailing and engraving techniques such as a sunburst ray effect in the background. 

The thumbpiece which aids in the opening of the box is equally majestic with an ornate chased design with high-relief scrollwork. Interior-wise, the box is also fully gilt with a rich gold tone that compliments the exterior and completes the fully gilt opulence. Such impressive artistry and opulent design would certainly make for a fine addition to any box collection, however, in addition, such boxes could also be used to store small items, mints and pills in the modern day.
